K.O wins big at the South African Hip Hop Awards

Blxckie led the pack of nominees for the annual SA Hip Hop Awards (SAHHAs), which were held on Tuesday evening at The Lyric Theatre in Gold Reef City.

Following last year’s awards, where Blxckie felt snubbed after only winning one award (Best Newcomer) despite a dominant breakthrough year, the “Kwenzekile” hitmaker was expected to make amends for 2021 by winning multiple awards this year.

Instead, veteran rap star K.O took home the night’s biggest awards, including Song Of The Year, Best Video, and Best Collabo. All of these honours were bestowed upon “Sete,” his chart-topping single from his most recent album, “SR 2.”

“Congratulations to @MrCashtime, @YOUNGSTUNNA_ZA and @Blxckie___ for winning the #SAHHA2022 Song of The Year pyramid! 🏆,” the SAHHAs said on Twitter.

The MVP award was given to Blxckie (Most Valuable Player). Priddy Ugly was named Lyricist of the Year, and Lunatik, who had a stellar comeback year, was named Producer of the Year.

Maglera Doe Boy was named Best Male, and Gigi Lamayne was named Best Female.

SABC1 tweeted: “Ladies and gentlemen, the winner for Best Female is none other than @Gigi_Lamayne. 🏆Sicela nishaye izandla 👏. Well deserved, right? #SABC1siON #SAHHA2022.”

Thato Saul, who was infamously omitted from MTV Base’s Hottest MCs list, will be feeling a lot better about his year now that he has won two awards: Freshman of the Year and Album of the Year.
