Kylian Mbappe accused of holding Lionel Messi at Paris St. Germain

England legend Gary Neville has accused France striker Kylian Mbappe and Brazil’s Neymar of holding back Lionel Messi at Paris St. Germain.

Neville looked at Argentina’s style of play where their game revolves around Messi and he says the French club is not the best one for the left-footed star.

The football pundit was speaking after the Argentine skipper led his nation to the final of the FIFA World Cup at the expense of Croatia on Tuesday.

Messi’s displays for his country at the ongoing 2022 World Cup suggest that he thrives in a position where he’s the sole leader with 10 workhorses around him.

“At PSG there’s three of them hanging up there doing nothing,” he said. “He’s got subservience here.

“The rest of them are putting in a massive, massive shift for him, and that’s what he needs.

“At PSG there are two or three others up there, and to be fair you can’t carry three, four of them without the ball. You can carry one without the ball, and that’s what Argentina is doing, so well done to those other players, incredible in terms of what they’re doing.”

Additionally, Messi came into the 2022 World Cup with the weight of a country on his shoulders to deliver their first win since 1990.

“The rest of his team are so collective around him in terms of how they’re playing, they’re almost saying we’re going to keep a clean sheet,” Neville added.

“Be horrible to play against, we’re going to do everything right then he’ll go and win us the game, he’ll do something, and that’s what is happening.”

Messi and his teammates will now wait to see the winner between the French and Morocco as they have already secured a spot in the final on Tuesday.
