Mampintsha has suffered a stroke, according to Afrotainment. The family requests privacy and prayers.
On Thursday evening, Afrotainment issued a statement saying that prominent artist and businessman Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo had had a stroke.
The 40-year-old member of the award-winning ensemble Big Nuz had been rumoured to be ill all week after a local publication claimed he was in poor condition.
“This is a public notification by Afrotainment, a record label based in Durban, KZN, South Africa. This statement serves as a notification to the Public, Media, Promoters and Big Nuz fans about businessman and artist, Mandla Maphumulo,” read the release, which was posted on the Afrotainment Instagram page.
“The star, affectionately known as Mampintsha, from multi-award-winning group Big Nuz, has suffered a minor stroke a week ago upon his return from a performance with Big Nuz.
“He is currently in hospital receiving medical attention and is under doctors observation.”
During this time, the family has requested that the public and media respect their privacy. The message said, “We ask that you keep him in your prayers. Afrotainment wishes him a speedy recovery, and we cannot wait for him to rock our stages again.”
When photographs of Mampintsha appearing unusually thin and underweight initially surfaced on the internet a few months ago, fans immediately began questioning and talking about his health. He debunked the rumours by claiming that he was simply eating healthier and exercising more.
Since his record label made the announcement, there has been an outpouring of love on social media:
“Prayers up to a speedy recovery to Mampintsha and his family,” Tweeted rapper Da LES.
@NkanyeziKhubeka added: “Sending love and prayers to Mandla. Wishing you a speedy recovery Mampintsha. 🙏❤️”
