Music streaming sites such as Apple and Spotify have just released the top 100 songs that kept Mzansi going throughout 2022 but Entertainment SA takes a look at the top 10.
There’s no doubt that South Africans were wowed by Sete by Young Stunna while some may still be tuning in to different songs.
According to Apple Music, topping the list is Ngixolelele by Busta 929 featuring Boohle and it is rated as number one in South Africa.
Based on their criteria, Apple said their charts are based on songs that played between November 2021 and October 2022.
For this reason, it became a little bit impossible for Sete to leapfrog Ngixolele to the number one spot as it was released on August 2022.
While the likes of Big Zulu made headlines in 2021, he failed to rise to the occasion in 2022 as his song Imali Eningi topped the trends two years ago.
Back in February 2021, the Joox streaming platform released a top 10 list of the most streamed South African songs in the month of love.
Looking at another music streaming platform, Spotify, they have rated Sete at number seven boasting 22, 362 plays, and the number one spot belongs to Mina Nawe by Soa Matrix and Mashudu which has 26 298 plays.
In this article, ESA selects 10 of the most talked about or trending songs and artists as we enter 2023 but looking back at the year 2022.
