Japanese top tennis player Naomi Osaka has just disclosed that she is expecting her first child and headed to social media to drop the update.
Osaka says he can’t wait to return to the tennis court and told her social media followers that she has an important update for the year 2023.
Despite not revealing her boyfriend or partner, Osaka has been rumoured to be in love with American rapper Cordae since 2019.
As of this writing, he has not shared anything on his social media and she has not played in a competitive tennis match since September when she competed in the Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo.
As far as rankings, Osaka has dropped to world no. 47, and back in November, she released a children’s book, The Way Champs Play, illustrated by Kamala Nair.
Osaka is not the first major tennis star to take a break from motherhood and follows United States star Serena Williams announced she was pregnant with her first child.
“Can’t wait to get back on the court. But here’s a little life update for 2023,” she tweeted.
AOL reports that she posted screenshots from her notes in English and Japanese, saying she has realised that life is too short.
“I realize that life is so short and I don’t take any moments for granted, every day is a new blessing and adventure,” she wrote.
“I know that I have so much to look forward to in the future, one thing I’m looking forward to is for my kid to watch one of my matches and tell someone, ‘that’s my mom’, haha.”
Osaka goes on to say that 2023 will be a year “full of lessons” and “of course” she’ll be back for the 2024 Australian Open.
“I don’t think there’s a perfectly correct path to take in life but I always felt that if you move forward with good intentions you’ll find your way eventually,” she added.
