Durban-based DStv Premiership club AmaZulu have completed the capture of three former stars Reneilwe Letsholonyane, Manqoba Ngwenya, and Mbulelo Mabizela.
The retired trio is recruited to help Usuthu bolster its development ranks and the club president Sandile Zungu has confirmed the news.
Local media reports indicate that three legends have been appointed to work within the club structures with immediate effect.
However, at this stage, it is not clear which age groups they will be split to work within Usuthu.
AmaZulu president Zungu confirmed the appointments of the trio, saying they will release a media statement in due course.
“I’m sure the club will be issuing a statement in due course. At the moment, even myself I’m not entirely sure who fits where,” he told iDiskiTimes.
“But they will be within the development, but on who does which ranks and who does which other ranks, how they will work together and for how long, let’s rely on the press release that will be issued soon.”
For Mabizela, who is the youngest player in South Africa’s history to have captained Bafana Bafana at age of 22 in June 2003, this is like all homecoming to the familiar territory.
The 42-year-old former Orlando Pirates skipper earned 45 caps and scored two goals in the process, previously playing for Usuthu in the 2014/15 season, joining them in the second half of the season after he was released by Mpumalanga Black Aces.
But his arrival did not help Steve Barker’s side as they were relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship in that season.
Formerly on the books of Wits University, Ngwenya had a good career with Mamelodi Sundowns where he also featured with Mabizela at once, he won two league titles, with the first under Neil Tovey and Miguel Gamondi when they were named as co-coaches in the 2005/06 season.
Looking at ‘Yeye’, Letsholonyane had a decorated career with the Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs.
In his stay at Naturena, he scooped the MTN8 trophy in that season, two league titles, Nedbank, Telkom Knockout, and MTN8 Cups.
However, he later left the club thus disappointing the club’s faithful as he joined SuperSport United in the 2016/17 season where he added another MTN8 and the Nedbank Cup gold medals.
