After suffering from a stroke, musician L’vovo has described the ordeal he went through while he was hospitalised in Durban.
Born Thokozani Ndlovu, L’vovo said he feared the fact that he might struggle to walk again and that his left lung was affected.
In an interview with Drum a few days after he was discharged, the award-winning kwaito artist says he is much better than when he was admitted to the hospital.
“When I got to the hospital I went to get a scan, the doctor asked me to open my mouth and that is when he confirmed that I had a minor stroke that affected the left side of my body,” he said.
“I was worried about this side of the body because this is the same side that was affected when I was involved in an accident, my left lung was affected and that got me worried and scared about whether the stroke would have an impact on my lung.”
Revealing his biggest concern, the Bayang’sukela hitmaker said he feared he was not going to be able to walk again, but he is happy that he was able to get medical attention early before the stroke could cause more damage.
“I was at the hospital for a week because my BP was too high so they had to stabilize it so that I can go home,” he added.
“I think what affected me when I ended up in the hospital was that I was with Mampintsha the previous day, and when I was driving to the festival for my performance, I learned that he passed away and that triggered me. He was someone that I spoke to every day, he was my friend, not just someone I know through music. While I was on stage I had so many things going on in my mind.”
In mourning his friend Mampintsha, he told the publication that he will allow every emotion and memory that they had together and cry when he needs to.
“I will allow time to get me to a better place in letting my friend go and accepting that he has passed on and not asking God why he took him away,” he said of the late musician.
“I will honour him with music, Mampintsha loved music, he was music and for us to keep giving the fans music will be something that he would want for us. I was busy working on my EP with Big Nuz and Tira and that will be my focus, the show must go on because wherever he is, he will be happy to know that we are working on our new music.”
L’vovo says this scary experience has taught him to appreciate life, adapt and healthy lifestyle, and maybe the government officials can also come to the party to teach people in the creative industry about the importance of taking care of themselves.
