BREAKING: MamKhize’s Royal AM reunites with John Maduka

KwaZulu-Natal outfit Royal AM have a made u-turn as far as their decision is concerned and have resigned coach John Maduka.

Maduka left the club when he sensationally joined fellow KZN side, Maritzburg United and they took to Twitter – announcing his return.

The former Bloemfontein Celtic boss’s return sees the club’s technical team circus going on as the club uploaded a brief statement on Twitter.

Royal announced the reunion with Maduka on their social media platforms where they only said, “Welcome back coach Maduka”, and did not give more details.

In a decision that raised eyebrows, Maduka parted ways with flamboyant businessman Shauwn Mkhize’s side just before the start of the current season and that followed lengthy negotiations for a new contract.

He guided the club to a decent third-place finish in their maiden season in the DStv Premiership.

“Welcome back coach Maduka,” said the club.

Maduka moved to KwaZulu-Natal with Royal after “MaMkhize” bought the franchise and relocated Siwelele to the coastal city at the start of the 2021/22 campaign.

The club did not give details about the length of Maduka’s new contract or what will happen to his former assistant coach Abram Nteo.

Royal have also not clarified the status of Nteo’s co-coach Khabo Zondo, who has not been seen on the bench for a few months.

However, South African media continued to report that veteran coach is no longer with the club, but AM have insisted he is still with the team.

After Maduka left Royal he was replaced by Zondo. However, the former Bafana Bafana assistant mentor was soon demoted from head coach as the club management opted for three co-coaches, adding Dan Malesela and Nteo.

Malesela then parted ways with the club and back in September to re-join former employers Marumo Gallants.

Royal now occupy the 12th spot on the log table with 21 points having played 18 games -Thwihli Thwahla are six points above the relegation zone and have managed just a point in their past three games.

“In my opinion what helped Maduka in the the first season was the continuity of having the Celtics players. Now most of them have left and only time will tell if he can get the best out the current squad.”
