“In search of a bodyguard”: Emtee reveals he’s receiving death threats

South African rapper Emtee is said to be looking for the services of a bodyguard if media reports circulating around have substance.

Various publications such as TimesLIVE and SAHipHopMag reveal that the musician has received death threats after the passing of DJ Sumbody.

A social media post also suggests that the gifted rapper is now searching for security personnel as he fears for his life.

This development comes as Mzansi is still recovering from the death of AKA, who was assassinated on Friday outside a restaurant on Florida street in Durban.

“They started with DJ Sumbody, now AKA. Word on the streets is that either me or {another young rapper} are next. I received a message from this mysterious figure. I blocked him the first time now he’s using another number,” he told TshisaLIVE.

Back in December, Mthembeni ‘Emtee’ Ndevu went live on Instagram while wearing a bulletproof vest speaking of how he was fearing for his life after the death of musician Oupa John “DJ Sumbody” Sefoka, who was gunned down in November in Woodmead, Johannesburg.

“People want to extort me for money I don’t have. After DJ Sumbody died, I got a message saying; ‘You are next’. I’ve been getting death threats for the past 2 years.”

Emtee claimed he’s been receiving death threats on his phone from unknown numbers for the past two years.

Per TimesLIVE, the rapper shared a screenshot of a WhatsApp text he’d received which reads; “You think you’re smart. I won’t leave a tiny stone unturned.”

“Yea bro do what you gotta do.”

Meanwhile, Entertainment SA reported that the funeral details of AKA have been released and he will be buried on Saturday, February 18.

In addition, his memorial service will be held at the Sandton Convention Centre on Friday – the family announced that he will be laid to rest in a private provincial funeral.
