New York-bound fashion designer Yemihle Ndadlana urges SA to help with R100K

East London-based fashion designer Yemihle Ndadlana is appealling to kind South Africans to help him realise his dream.

The talented fashion designer is set to travel to New York to showcase his abilities but he is struggling to raise the money needed for the journey.

Ndadlana is scheduled to be part of the New York Fashion Week to display his brand, HeadbandPapi, from 21-27 February 2023 but he has raised a quarter of the money.

“[It] means everything to me because I believe this is a life-changing opportunity,” he told Drum.

“I would succeed in changing my life including my family’s for the better as I have always wished. It would put my brand/business on a different pedestal and would inspire kids from where I’m from, which is Mdantsane, to show them that if I can do that, so can they.”

Entertainment SA has gathered that Yemihle’s mother, Yekelwa, used to dress the late Brenda Fassie.

Despite launching her career as a hobby in 2015 while he was still in high school, it clearly is not foreign and because of that, he remains dedicated to this journey.

“I didn’t study fashion design. I believe this is genetical. I learned everything I know from the streets,” he added.

“Dreaming about my late mother is another thing that’s been driving me to never stop, to never give up.”

The gifted designer says his label, Hbp does not only custom-make headbands but also T-shirts and track pants which were the first garments he ever made back in 2017.

The brand has since grown to produce caps, jackets, hoodies as well as sweaters for the young, hip, and happening.

“I was anonymously nominated but I wasn’t shocked because I feel like I deserve it. I represent Mdantsane but after that, I represent my entire province,” he noted.

As one of the nominees for the Eastern Cape Hustler’s Awards, Yemihle has worked with Nasty C, 25K, DBNGogo as well as Focalistic and aspires to work with Yeezy, Maxhosa, and Bathu among other top brands in South Africa.
