Quavo pays tribute to Takeoff During the Grammys 2023 ‘In Memoriam’ section

At the 2023 Grammys, Quavo paid respect to his late groupmate — and nephew — Takeoff.

The Migos rapper grabbed the stage with Maverick City Music on Sunday night to perform “Without You” in memory of Takeoff, who died on November 1.

The rapper began his “In Memoriam” homage while seated on a stool surrounded by choir singers, clad in all black with a simple silver chain and a mask that covered half his face. He also showed off Takeoff’s diamond-encrusted chain to the audience.

During his performance, two choir members joined him in singing “See You Again” by Charlie Puth and Wiz Khalifa.

Offset, a member of the Migos, did not join him on stage.

Kacey Musgraves paid tribute to Loretta Lynn with a version of “Coal Miner’s Daughter” just before Quavo.

They were followed by a star-studded performance of “Songbird” by Christine McVie by Sheryl Crow, Mick Fleetwood, and Bonnie Raitt.

Quavo’s memorial was his first public appearance since witnessing his nephew’s tragic shooting in a Houston bowling alley.

Quavo posted an emotional letter to his “angel” on Instagram over two weeks after Takeoff’s death.

“It’s so hard to tell you Ima miss you because you always with me and we did everything together,” the “Bad and Boujee” rapper began the lengthy note.

“This whole time I’ve been trying to figure out what you really are to me because nephew ain’t it,” Quavo said. “… Now I finally get it … you are OUR angel watching me and watching us this whole time in living form.”

He ended the eulogy by telling Takeoff that he would “keep your name alive as long as I live.”

While Quavo has remained relatively unknown since Takeoff’s death, Offset, who co-founded the rap trio in 2008, has been utilising social media to cope with the loss.

“S-t not easy[,] fake smiling and s-t[,] tryna keep walking with my head up,” Kiari Kendrell Cephus, the rapper’s real name, tweeted last month. Before that, Offset said the loss “left a hole in my heart that will never be filled.”

“The pain you have left me with is unbearable,” the 31-year-old wrote via Instagram. “My heart is shattered and I have so many things to say, but I can’t find the words.”

He continued, “I’ve been going to sleep and waking up hoping that all of this is a dream, but it’s reality, and reality feels like a nightmare.”

Takeoff — whose real name is Kirsnick Khari Ball — was shot and killed at the age of 28 after an altercation broke out at a party.

Shortly after, authorities arrested 33-year-old Patrick Xavier Clark and have since charged him with murder.
