Andile Jali’s agent Mike Makaab has provided an insight into the player’s affairs at Mamelodi Sundowns amid his contract saga.
The hard-tackling midfielder has reportedly stopped training at Chloorkop but Makaab says his client is back training with his teammates.
The 32-year-old is enduring a tough spell at the club after being named DStv Premiership Midfielder of the Season in 2021/22 and he is yet to extend his contract.
His last game was a Nedbank Cup clash with Richards Bay last month and he hasn’t been in the squad in the last three games – his current deal expires at the end of June.
Just in the previous week, Entertainment SA also reported that Jali arrived under the influence of alcohol for training, and that surfaced as he struggles to sign a new contract.
On his social media platforms, he also fuelled speculation by posting a picture of him arriving in his hometown Matatiele in the Eastern Cape.
Speaking to Gagasi FM, the seasoned football player manager didn’t deny that the former Orlando Pirates was at home but he is back in Johannesburg.
“Yes, he is [training]. He has also been at home and that’s not a secret,” he said on Gagasi FM.
“But again, one needs to look at the human element of this whole thing and understand that we have a player that is not settled. And we must accept that.”
ESA Sport also reported that Jali and his teammate, Sipho Mbule came to training under the influence of alcohol, and coach Rulani Mokwena refused to speak ill of his charges.
“It’s nobody’s fault. It’s not his fault, it’s not the football club’s fault. These things happen in football,” adds Makaab.
“We’ve done our best to try and find a solution, I think Mamelodi Sundowns have done their best to try and find a solution. At times these things take time to unfold.
“I prefer for them to unfold naturally than for it to be forced. Anything that is done under pressure, anything that is done in a manner that isn’t – let me use the correct word – natural, that isn’t done naturally, there’s pressure from one side or the other to conclude something for the sake of concluding something, I don’t believe those arrangements ever work out.
“I prefer to let things unfold as naturally as they can.”
Meanwhile, the Brazilians will welcome Egyptian giants Al Ahly for their fourth CAF Champions League encounter in Tshwane this Saturday.
