Back with a bang: Inspiring Zola 7 reveals he nearly died from epilepsy

Well-known South African entertainer Zola 7 has resurfaced and there is no doubt Mzansi still holds him dearly.

Entertainment SA understands that the television star wowed his fans at Insta Nation in Rosebank, Johannesburg, as they erupted in applause to welcome him.

Born Bonginkosi ‘Zola’ Dlamini, the former Zola 7 presenter on SABC1 took back to the stage, singing his tunes verbatim.

According to Surge Zirc, Dlamini appeared as a surprise during the introduction of a new mobile device.

Despite appearing a little fragile, the radio and television personality’s talent remains the same as what we saw.

He revealed that he nearly died but he is on medication and that he is responding well to it.

“I almost kicked the bucket. But the medication is treating me well. I’m trying to eat right. I could say that I rose from the dead. I almost didn’t make it,” he disclosed.

“I take 200 mg of medication in the morning and in the evening, so it’s heavy. According to the doctors, I will be doing this for the rest of my life.

“I was in a coma for five weeks due to epilepsy. I was not on any ventilators or anything, I was breathing by myself. I also learned that epilepsy could hide in your body for a while and then show itself at a later stage, I think this was the case with me.”

Speaking about education as a motivational speaker, Zola said every child deserves a quality education and a fair opportunity.

“Every child deserves a good, free education. It’s been tough, but I am back,” he continued.

“I am working on a new album which I hope to will be released on 24 April, but nothing is yet finalised. I have a lot of new music and it’s only a matter of time.”

The esteemed music maker resurfaces when some people spread rumours of his death on social media when he fell ill some years back.

According to the hitmaker, there are unusual ailments that South Africans are not discussing about or receiving adequate education about.

“That is something I would like to explore in the future in either a show or If there is an organisation that is interested in talking about rare illnesses, I’d gladly be part of it,” Zola concluded.

“I’m not going back to weighing 42 kg. I gained a bit of weight; I like this body now.”
