It is no longer news that some entertainers have made the country proud by selling out world-renowned concert venues.
Entertainment SA has gathered a list of artists that have achieved such a feat.
1. Wizkid
“Jah Bless Me,” he sang a while back and it must be said that Jah has indeed blessed the songster probably beyond his dreams. From an unknown kid in the backwater of Surulere who founded a kiddies band in church, the songster has emerged as one of the leading voices in afro beats in Nigeria.
In May 2018, Wizkid made history as the first Nigerian artist to sell out London’s iconic O2 Arena, which has a capacity of 20,000. This event marked a milestone in his career, and he has since had multiple sold-out concerts at the venue.
In addition to his success at the O2 Arena, Wizkid has also sold out other renowned venues around the world, including France’s largest indoor arena, the Accor Arena in Paris, which has a capacity of 20,300.
2. Ckay
Chukwuka Ekweani better known as Ckay made an impact last year, not just locally His song resonated internationally as well.
The afrobeat ace history as the first-ever African artist to feature in the top 100 Billboard Artists year-end chart. The significance of that milestone wasn’t lost on the singer, as he celebrated it, joined by his fans across social media platforms.
Interestingly, the songster also had a good run with his “Love Nwantiti” tune, which peaked at number 17 on Billboard Global 200 songs another personal milestone. While Ckay might be young in age and even younger on the music scene, he is seen as one of the key voices of afro beats in Nigeria.
Ckay sold out the 02 arena in 2022.
3. Burna Boy
Burna Boy’s impressive musical career has led him to achieve a remarkable feat as the only African artist to sell out four major arenas in the United States, including the iconic Hollywood Bowl, with a capacity of 17,000, and the Toyota Centre, which can hold up to 19,000 people.
In addition, he has sold out two other arenas with a massive capacity of 21,000, namely the Madison Square Garden and the State Farm Arena in Atlanta.
But Burna Boy’s achievements do not end there. He has also single-handedly sold out a variety of other esteemed venues around the world, such as the Accor Arena, O2 Arena, Ziggo Dome, Ahoy Arena, Wembley Arena, Partille Arena, Geneva Arena, and HovetArena.
4. Davido
Nigerian superstar, David Adeleke popularly known as Davido made history in January 2019, he sold out the O2 Arena in London. The singer and music producer wowed the crowd with his electrifying performance, which featured collaborations with other talented Nigerian artists such as Mayorkun, Peruzzi, and Dremo. Zlatan Ibile also graced the stage, adding to the unforgettable night.
Fast forward to 2022, and Davido did it again, selling out the O2 Arena for the second time. Once again, the artist delivered an unforgettable show, leaving fans in awe.
5. Tiwa Savage
Tiwa Savage made history as the first African female musician to sell out the prestigious Indigo at the O2 Arena in London. Her concert, “The Savage Tour,” was her debut performance in the UK, and fans were eager to witness the iconic moment.
The event was a resounding success, with tickets for the concert selling out well before the start of the show.
