There is new information surrounding the death of former Metro FM news reader Pearl Shongwe and drug abuse is suspected as the cause.
Media reports surfaced over the past weekend that Shongwe might have passed away because of a drug overdose.
Sunday World posted on Sunday that the cause of death of the late radio news reader was suspected to be a drug overdose.
The weekend publication posted that police officers found drugs in her bedroom when they did a clean up at her home.
“We suspect drug overdose because we have found drugs in her bedroom when we were combing the house for possible leads to her death,” the police officer told the publication.
The news outlet further reported that the police are looking into surveillance cameras to determine who might have been the last person to be with Shongwe while she was alive.
According to the report, a toxicology report will give a clear indication as to what exactly killed the presenter.
As previously reported by Entertainment SA, Shongwe passed away at age 35 after she was found dead back in November at her home in Polo fields north of Johannesburg.
