Pabi Moloi replaces outgoing Faith Mangope at Power 98.7

Veteran radio personality Pabi Moloi has replaced Faith Mangope at Power FM 98.7 as she will take over the reins as Power Lunch.

Moloi succeeds Mangope who bids farewell to the Johannesburg-based radio station as announced on social media platforms.

Pabi, who has been with the station since 2013, is the host of the Power Weekend Breakfast show but will now be on the airwaves on weekdays from 12 to 3pm.

“I’m excited. The transition from one space to another over the years at Power 98.7 has been inspiring for me. I always wanted to move from music radio to talk radio and Power 98.7 gave me that opportunity,” Moloi said in an interview with Thabiso Tema.

“Anchoring the weekend breakfast show has been unbelievably eye-opening and challenging. I really had to dig from the inside out, not just because of the early call time, but expanding who I am as a broadcaster, and so I think it’s the perfect and natural next step.”

As April is dubbed the month of changes on South African radio, there are other changes at the station that were announced this week.

Tshego Moagi, who hosts Power Life on Sunday evenings, is the new host of Power Weekend Breakfast and Power Business will now be presented by Noluthando Mthontsi-Mlambo.

Meanwhile, Lusanda “Lusky” Nkohla will become the new host of Power Weekend in the evening slot.

According to Power 98.7 Managing Director James Shikwambana, he said they have established an internal pool of talent.

“The station built an internal pool of talent that always rises to the occasion,” he said.

“She has long been gearing to interact with our listeners on a regular basis and we are confident she will bring her unique brand of engagement to Power Lunch.”

Remaining with changes on radio, Entertainment SA posted that Radio 2000 breakfast show host Bongani Mtolo was another presenter leaving the SABC and he announced the news on social media.

Mtolo took to Twitter and announced that March will be his last month as a SABC staffer much to the disappointment of his followers.

Having joined Radio 2000 two years ago from Durban’s East Coast Radio, Mtolo hosted the show with the likes of Nonala Tose and Lonwabo Nkola on weekdays from 6-9:00.
