Actress Terry Pheto’s name continues to make headlines in South Africa and she is said to have received a R1 million payment from the National Lotteries Commission.
Fresh media reports reveal that the Tsotsi star reportedly benefited another R1-million from the commission.
The money was awarded to an NPO which Pheto is the sole director, Sunguti Projects as Ground Up reports.
The R1-million is in addition to the R3-million she allegedly received and purchased a house in Bryanston with, which has since been put on auction to recover losses suffered by the National Lottery Commission.
As also reported by Drum Magazine, the R3-million was reportedly given to her for funding intended for the rollout of a public campaign and culturally sensitive medical intervention projects to achieve traditional circumcision.
Pheto’s NPO also received an additional R1-million intended for another project and the money came from the NLC and was handed given to an NPO called, Life for Impact in the 21st Century.
“R1-million was paid to Sunguti Projects, of which Terry Pheto, the actress known for her role in Tsotsi and The Bold and the Beautiful is the sole director,” reports GroundUp.
“Pheto also received R3-million from the recipient of an unrelated grant to help build a R5-million luxury home in Bryanston, Johannesburg. The house, which was paid for in cash, was frozen by the Special Tribunal but failed to attract any bids when it came up for auction earlier this month.”
Additionally, the report indicates that ‘three entities linked to the former National Lotteries Commission chief shared in the looted money’ and the award-winning thespian was one of them.
Jacaranda FM also posted that the ‘National Lotteries Commission (NLC) awarded a grant of more than R10-million to a non-profit entity to stage a South African Youth Awards ceremony’.
The money which went to Life for Impact in the 21st Century was shared among people and companies with no links whatsoever to the awards.
Furthermore, the NPO did not allocate the R10-million received towards the awards, instead, the awards were organised and covered by the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA).
Meanwhile, ESA posted that the Special Investigating United (SIU) recently announced the auction of one of Pheto’s properties.
Located in Bryanston in Johannesburg and belonging to Pheto, the house was allegedly built with funds siphoned from the National Lotteries Commission (NLC), and was put under the hammer.
Having risen to prominence as an actress in the award-winning film, Tsotsi, Pheto was linked to a property fraud matter in November where the SIU obtained a high court preservation order to freeze nine luxury properties in Gauteng.
