Three months after being convicted guilty of shooting Megan Thee Stallion, Tory Lanez has filed an appeal to have his conviction reversed.
According to court records acquired by TMZ, the rapper’s lawyer believes the rapper’s conviction should be overturned owing to “irrelevant evidence” provided during the trial.
Lanez faces 22 years in prison for three felony weapons offences when he is sentenced next month.
Jose Baez, the ‘Say It’ rapper’s criminal defence lawyer, stood up and stated Lanez’s conviction should be overturned after a shirtless photo of the rapper clutching a pistol to his chest was used to “underscore to the jury his client had a fondness for weapons.”
Lanez’s lawyer also said that it was a “reversible error” for prosecutors to threaten the jury with using the rapper’s song lyrics.
Moreover, his lawyer claims that the jury should not have heard an 80-minute interview with Megan’s old Friend Kelsey Harris, who was in the vehicle with both rappers the night of the incident.
While eventually retracting much of her comments, Harris’ interview was apparently damaging to Lanez’s case.
Lanez was convicted in July 2020 of shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot during a verbal fight after leaving Kylie Jenner’s party.
Megan said Lanez, 30, fired multiple bullets at her while yelling “dance, b****!” after they got into a fight about their sexual connection and different music careers.
Tory Lanez is scheduled to be sentenced next month.
