There has been another twist in the pursuit of capturing convicted rapist and murderer Thabo Bester, who escaped from prison last year, the person who is known to be his girlfriend reportedly purchased a luxurious car and abandoned it on the Zimbabwean side of the border.
According to a media report, the girlfriend known as Dr Nandipha Magudumana purchased a luxury Mercedes-Benz worth R1.35-million last year. She then reportedly defaulted on the payments and abandoned the car in Zimbabwe.
The details of the purchase were confirmed by the auto dealership that processed the car sale. The Dr allegedly still owes an mount said to be around R700 000 on the vehicle. It was also discovered that the move was a plan to skip the country through the Zimbabwean border, a report claimed. The Footage retrieved from a reliable private investigator shows the Dr crossing the border in January. She reportedly crossed back into South Africa on foot and was later picked up at a garage.
There is also another footage, taken about two months ago, in which the Dr admits to defaulting on the car payments, claiming that a third party was involved in the agreement with the dealership and would make a new agreement. Citing reasons her aesthetic medical clinic in Sandton, Johannesburg, was struggling financially.
We also reported that earlier this week, police finally raided Bester and the Dr’s Hyde Park rental home. Which is now left abandoned. The raid, carried out by a forensics team and the police team, began on Tuesday afternoon this week. The police officers are said to be searching for their employee, who has also since gone AWOL since the couple left.
It was also said that the couple left the luxurious Hyde Park home two weeks ago, after it emerged that GroundUp lifted the lid on Bester’s escape from the Mangaung Correctional Centre in Bloemfontein on 3 May 2022. It was initially believed that he died in a fire in his cell. GroundUp, however, reported that Bester had a body brought into his cell, set it alight and escaped. Bester pleaded guilty to two charges of rape and one of murder in separate trials in 2011 and 2012 and was sentenced to an effective life term.
