Arthur Zwane set to stay at Kaizer Chiefs despite disastrous season

Embattled Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has seemingly survived the storm as media reports suggest he will not be fired by the club.

This comes after a meeting that was held by the club’s board and the coach who had to table his technical report.

In their disastrous season, Chiefs failed to qualify for the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup as they finished outside of the top four.

At the same time, the Soweto giants could not win trophies to end their unwanted eight-year trophy drought.

Towards the end of the 2022/23 DStv Premiership campaign, a section of fans vented their anger and attacked the coach with missiles.

Zwane’s stay was confirmed by sources close to Phakaaathi who said the board is confident he will turn things around but he is expected to produce instant results.

The source also claimed that the club’s hierarchy was unimpressed with how the team performed especially towards the end of the season where they lost four games in a row.

Amakhosi finished fifth in the premiership and were knocked out in the semi-finals in both the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup.

“The meeting sat on Tuesday and after extensive talks, he emerged as the coach and still enjoys the full support of the management. He is safe,” said the source.

Entertainment SA Sport has gathered that the informant said, Zwane was told that he needs to hit the ground running next season to appease the disgruntled supporters.

Zwane understands the job very well. He knows he needs to end the trophy drought and get the team to play attractive football, reports the website.

“And he is hopeful that when he has his new signings and gets a few strikers, he will be alright.”

It is also mentioned that the former winger is confident he will guide the club to glory once he gets the right players during the transfer window including proven goalscorers.

Meanwhile, names such as Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mngqithi were mentioned as those vying for the job.
