Man.City boss Pep Guardiola setting sights on historic treble

After handing reigning European champions Real Madrid a 4-0 drubbing on Wednesday night, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is now eyeing a treble.

The Citizens have booked as pot in the FA Cup and UEFA Champions League finals and are on the verge of winning the English Premier League this weekend.

Following their convincing 4-0 win over Madrid at Etihad Stadium in the second leg of the UEFA semi-final, Guardiola admits they are close to making history.

City’s current squad could emulate the class of 1999 which scooped three trophies and Guardiola says they are closer to glory.

“We’re closer. Let me win the first two!,” said Guardiola.

“In the Premier League, we are close, we need one more game. And I would say when we play against our neighbours and in the final of the Champions League against an Italian team, be calm. The season is really good already with what we have done.

“Now we have to lift the trophies but we’ve had so much joy and fun with our people this season. We made our fans happy all around the world. They saw a good team playing. This is the biggest compliment. But we are going to try.”

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager added that his charges can think about it and visualise the treble and it is normal.

He continued to say they are three games away, one in each competition and they can do it, but for him, it is more important after many years of hard work.

In the eagerly anticipated UEFA final, the English giants will meet Italian Serie A giants, Inter Milan in the final slated for Istanbul on June 10.

The reigning EPL champions are looking to claim the full three points against Chelsea this weekend and they can lift the coveted trophy.
