After a five-year break, the Metro FM Awards (MMAs) finally took place on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga. The event was broadcast live on the SABC1 and Metro FM YouTube channels. The awards were hosted by two award-winning presenters, Lerato Kganyago and Katlego Maboe.
Rapper AKA was the biggest winner at the awards, taking home four awards for Best Collaboration Song, Best Hip Hop Artist, Artist of the Year, and Best Male Artist. His parents and daughter, Kairo, collected the late rapper’s awards. Betusi Mcinga took home Song of the Year, while Makhadzi was won Best Female Artist.
Other winners were, DJ Tira, Nduduzo Makhathini, Zuko SA, Deep London, MOE, Inkabi Nation, Skye Wanda, Pastor Lungi Ndala, COCOSA, and Musa Keys.
