Sundowns’ Rulani Mokwena anticipates a tricky affair in Morocco

Ahead of the crucial encounter against Wydad Casablanca this weekend, Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rulani Mokwena says he expects a gruelling encounter in Morocco.

Mokwena is leading his charges heading to the North African nation hoping to secure a favourable result and reach the final of the CAF Champions League.

As the Moroccans have unveiled a new coach in VanDen Broeck, Mokwena says he has profiled the defending African champions, explaining that the match will be tricky.

He said the encounter will be played in front of hostile crowds and he is aware of that but they are going to do their analysis. He also banked on their observations.

“We expect a tough game with a hostile crowd and a difficult team, good team and new coach now but they also expect a good team and a team that will come there and be brave to play,” he said.

The former Orlando Pirates manager leads his men to an eagerly anticipated match as the club is under a dark cloud following the passing of communications manager Alex Shakoane.

Mokwena also took time after their 2-0 win over Marumo Gallants, reacting to the critics and added that the negative talk about his qualities brings him good energy.

The naysayers’ sentiments come just after the young manager guided the Tshwane giants to DStv Premiership glory and are in line to bag the coveted CAF Champions League title.

He said he welcomes criticism as much as he takes the praise and the good moments as fans and football analysts still doubt his tactical acumen.

“The people say anyone can coach this team. And not everyone can get it playing the way it plays,” he added.

“So I take it (criticism), it is good. It gives, believe you me, it gives me lots of energy. The haters, they give me lots of energy.”
