Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is returning to the Fast & Furious franchise. The actor announced his return on his social media Thursday declaring that he and Vin Diesel have put everything in the past and made peace. The Rock will be back as Luke Hobbs his original character.
“Last summer, @vindiesel and I put all the past behind us,” Johnson wrote in the Instagram post. “We’ll lead with brotherhood and resolve – and always take care of the franchise, characters & FANS that we love.”
He also teased that more is to come between his character Hobbs and Jason Momoa’s character Dante.
The actor also went on to congratulate his “Fast family” and Universal Studios on the Fast X success globally. He went on to say that his character “ Hobbs & @SevenBucksProd are motivated to help take the Fast franchise to new and exciting places for fans worldwide.”
Fast X hit the cinemas on May 19, 2023.
The Tooth Fairy star first appeared on Fast & Furious as Hobbs in 2011 in “Fast Five” and went on to star in five more Fast & Furious films.
In an interview with CNN in 2021, The Rock said he “would not be returning to the franchise” after his last appearance on 2019 “Hobbs & Shaw” spinoff.
The actor had a fallout with his co-star Vin Diesel, he explained the reason behind the fallout. “In terms of the why, despite us having our differences, me and Vin, we have been like brothers for years,” said Johnson, who added that the two stars looked at the good of the franchise and the fans – “plans that are much bigger than ourselves, those bigger plans are the north star.”
In his post on Instagram Thursday, The Rock said, Last summer @vindiesel and I put all the past behind us. We’ll lead with brotherhood and resolve – and always take care of the franchise, characters & FANS that we love.
He went on to finish off his post by saying that it really not a hard decision to go back to the franchise “It’s a yes.”
