The first episode of Shaka Ilembe hit our screens on Sunday, 18th June 2023 on Mzansi Magic. The first episode set the record as it hit over 3.6 million views reaching number one on the DStv App across South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia, and other surrounding African countries.
The first episode hit screens last Sunday. The historical series, set in the late 1700s and 1800s, explores the making of iconic African king Shaka Zulu, played by Lemogang Tsipa and Nomzamo Mbatha as iNdlovukazi Nandi.
DStv media sales CEO Fahmeeda Cassim-Surtee said in a press statement, “Shaka iLembe represents the best of African storytelling, It was created for a local market, but it is also, most certainly, a global television property.”
“This is an epic series (and is) told on an epic scale, and it is destined to keep audiences tuned in with strong plotlines, stunning visuals, an evocative soundtrack, and a range of powerhouse performances,” Cassim-Surtee continued.
The production cast includes, Nomzamo Mbatha, Lemogang Tsipa, Senzo Radebe, Thembinkosi Mthembu, Wiseman Mncube, Khabonina Qubeka, Dawn Thandeka King, Hope Mbhele, Mondli Makhoba, Sthandiwe Kgoroge and will introduce Ntando Zondi.
