The South African musician, Ishmael Morabe recently sat in an interview on The Hive with Bonolo B Sting, where he opened up about making his comeback in the music industry.
Born in Rustenburg North West before moving to Johannesburg with his parents years back, Ishmael Morabe became one of the most popular music artists in the early 2000s with hits and features on songs like Avulekile Amasango, Motherland, Sangena, Born, and more.
On the interview the singer spoke about his life mistakes, such as taking part in drugs, and how he is grateful to have seen past that era now. ZiMoja reported earlier in the year that Ishmael shared that he was three months clean.
Morabe was quoted saying: “What motivated me to stay off drugs was the fear of losing all the things I hold dear in my life – the God in me, family members, and my music career. I imagined losing everything and realised that I needed to get my life together.”
Ishmael spent some time in a rehabilitation centre, and he is now trying to make his comeback in the music industry. He recently dropped a new Amapiano track with DJ Lisa Li and Charmza, titled, Ngawe, and expressed that he appreciated the love he has received from fans. “I mean, that’s what we [as musicians] live for. We are in the studio to create music for people and when you see people feeling what you do, it’s priceless.” – he added.
The musician has been in the industry for 30 years and has thrived in three different successful music groups including Prophets of Da City, Skeem, and Jozi. He revealed that he has managed to gravitate to all three music groups because of their style and because he enjoys collaborating with different people. “I like working with people because it makes the load easier and more fun.” – he said.
Taking a trip down memory lane, Ishmael also mentioned that out of all the groups, he mostly enjoyed being part of Jozi.
“If there is anything that I am proud to be part of in this world, Jozi would be one of them. It was a different group; we were doing our own thing; it was beautiful…it contributed so much to the South African hip-hop industry… We started sampling South African music in hip-hop and tried to make it South African,” he added.
