On July 28th Travis Scott dropped his highly-anticipated fourth studio album UTOPIA. The album feature guest appearances from Beyoncé, Drake, The Weeknd, Bad Bunny, SZA, Young Thug, and more. UTOPIA, Scott’s first solo album in almost five years still include the rapper’s special sound which includes “gargantuan songs with sledgehammer drums, thunderous synthesizers, and trash-the-hotel-lobby hooks.”
The reviews of the album are already positive so far. According to listeners, the album sounded super familiar and compared to Kanye’s 2013 experimental album, Yeezus. The two albums have a few elements that are quite similar.
From production credits to similar flows and collaborators, here is why Travis Scott’s UTOPIA reminds you of Kanye West and Yeezus.
Firstly Scott did help produce Yeezus and help with bringing Kanye’s experimental sound to the world. Scott is also credited as the main producer on Yeezus tracks such as, “New Slaves,” “Guilt Trip,” and “I Am God,” according to Complex.
If you listen to those tracks from Yeezus and Utopia you will understand why the two albums are very alike.
In the same way, Scotts had a hand in the production of Yeezus, Kanye also has his hands in the production of Utopia. Kanye has quite a few production and writing credits on Utopia. From “THANK GOD”, “GOD’S COUNTRY,” and “TALEKINESIS,” Kanye appeared on the production credits and the songs have his quintessential auto-tuned vocals and intense beat.
