American rapper DaBaby is making his way to South Africa

The American rapper, DaBaby is set to perform in South Africa in September at the Empower Africa Concert.

Before the rapper came to fame, he had his fair share of drama and controversy, as he was involved in a deadly shooting back in 2018 and that led to murder charges. Those charges were reduced to a misdemeanour when a judge ruled that the rapper acted in self-defence.

TMZ reports that Jonathan Kirk, popularly known as DaBaby, was detained and questioned for his connection to a robbery investigation back in January 2020. It was reported that DaBaby together with his crew attacked a music promoter for only paying him $20,000 out of the $30,000 that was owed for a Miami performance.

The rapper’s life has been surrounded by a lot of drama and he has always made headlines for the wrong reasons, including teasing a collaboration with Tory Lanez who was sentenced to 10 years in jail for shooting Megan Thee Stallion in 2021.

South Africans are confused why he’s coming to the country because at some point he also came under fire for making homophobic comments while performing onstage at the Rolling Out Loud concert.

DaBaby has also proven to be a horrible partner to his ex Danileigh after he kicked her out with their new-born baby.

Despite eagerly announcing that he’s headed to South Africa, a lot of people have no care for the artist.

One Tweep shared: “South Africans are DEEPLY unserious because ’empower’ and Dababy do not belong in the same sentence”.

Radio personality Sizwe Dhlomo also poked fun at the rapper performing in South Africa,

“Da Baby? FNB Stadium? Lol!”, he joked.
