TV and radio personality, Pearl Thusi has decided to shed the light and explain the reason behind her Zimbabwe trip.
Pearl alongside Sonia Mbele and Sello Maake kaNcube, were dragged on social media for being part of a tour in the South African neighbouring country almost two weeks before its elections.
Taking to her social media, Pearl Thusi said the reason why she went to Zimbabwe was to show the world how beautiful it is. “Come to Zimbabwe and experience it’s magic. Experience the power in Zimbabwe and spread the word.” – she captioned her post.
She thanked the organisers and said she can’t wait to return and change the narrative of what Africa looks like to the entire world. “I’m so proud to be an African. ???? One more African nation ticked off the list! Can’t wait to see who’s next! Thank you for your incredible hospitality Zimbabwe,” she added.
Going Live on her Instagram page, also revealed to her fans that she did not expect to go to the Zimbabwean State house, so she was ambushed. She won’t apologise since she didn’t know that she was invited for a political campaign and not a tourism campaign as she claims she was initially told.
Zimbabwe’s permanent secretary for the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Nick Mangwana has a very different story to tell. The official says the TV personalities were part of the “True Zimbabwe Tour”, which is a campaign that will be run by the country’s ruling party, Zanu-PF, ahead of the elections on the 23rd of August.
When the images of Pearl, Sello, the Zanu-PF party members and other guests were shared on X, the Mzansi celebrities were called sellout; among other things.
Pearl Thusi confesses that ZanuPF tricked SA celebs that they were invited to market tourism but the program was diverted and they were sent to the state house to wear Zanu scarfs and take photos with ED. pic.twitter.com/gZFmjVSbOz
