Nomzamo Mbatha is undoubtedly one of the biggest movers and shakers in the entertainment industry, and she has decided to let everyone in on what drives her.
Taking to her Instagram, the ‘Coming to America 2’ shared a video where she shared some of her most memorable moments in her journey. On the caption of her post, she said that one of her earliest childhood memories is of her sister and how she would cup her hands under a running tap in a bowl-like fashion so that I could drink from them.
“How Siyabonga Nomvete would come back to our township in KwaMashu and host tournaments for young boys who dreamed of becoming soccer stars. Reinforcing the power of visibility. Or Young women who are social entrepreneurs and currently changing the course of their communities, helping fellow women like myself believe in changing the narrative and standing in my power” she continued.
“Are we not all a culmination of what we see and thus dare to believe… Who showed us? who encouraged us? who lifted us up when we needed it the most? Who gave us the permission to think outside of self … and therefore stand for something much greater than ourselves.” – the star added.
On the video itself, Zamo reveals that she does it for every little girl who comes from the township, or any marginalized area. “I do it for my community” – she added.
The actress goes on to share her most recent incident that took place, where she was at a school that they were refurbishing, and one of the little girls went up to her, gave her a nudge so that she could give her a letter. “She throws it into my chest, and so I look down, and it’s like this little moment between us. I grab the letter and she’s like, ‘My English is bad in the letter, don’t mind it. But so is your Zulu’, and we both laughed” – Zamo cracks out laughing with teary eyes.
Mbatha says she held the little girl’s face, and she’ll never forget that moment because the little girl is able to write things in that letter that truly articulate what Mbatha’s tangibility, her visibility, and her accessibility means to her and her schoolmates.
Towards the end of the clip, Nomzamo by saying: “I do it for those who continue to reach beyond their horizon. I’m mostly inspired by civil servants, teachers and entrepreneurs.” She admits that you need a lot of courage, and just the ability to dedicate yourself to hard work. She also reveals that she is driven by the fact that she knows that there’s so much more that she has to learn. “I’m driven by the ambition, that I’m not good at everything, but I’m going to get better and better.”
The media personality also mentions that she told her friend recently, that she just wants to live long enough to see her summit.
She closed by saying: “The truest why, is leaving my generation better than I found it.”
