Anthony Hamilton is in South Africa and just before he serenades us with his amazing voice and musical hits, he took some time to get ‘Up Close & Personal’ with media.
Sitting down for an interview and media conference with radio 702, hosted by the decorated TV and Radio presenter, Bongani Bingwa, Hamilton shared his amazing South African experience, the favourite places in which he has stayed every time he visited, and of course the music.
After revealing that he loves it in Mzansi so much so that he would stay here, Bongani asked what his biggest lesson that he has learned looking back at his career and branching out as a solo artist. “The biggest lesson I’ve learned, is to believe in yourself.” – Hamilton said.
“Walk the walk, put the time in, and never ever second guess yourself. When God gives you something, an assignment, if it’s something in your heart, and it’s truly from God? Uhm.. It’s gotta work. You just have to believe in it.”
When asked what he thinks his best work of all time is, the 18-time Grammy Nominee told Entertainment SA that he has a number of songs that come to mind. The first one being ‘I’m A Mess’ because “life has a way of humbling you down. When you thought you knew it all, and then you realize that you don’t? That’s a powerful place to be because then you’re opened up to learning hard.”
Opening up about his global hit song, ‘Her Heart’, Anthony told the publication that it was a true song because it was a dedication to his ex-wife. “I was brave to write that. You know? That was my apology to my ex-wife, and to any woman that had gone through that. So that’ always special.”
The music producer also mentioned that the song is one of those songs that you can never forget. ‘Coming From where I’m From’ also made the list of his special songs because “You know when you open a book, the once upon a time, ‘it was night before..’, you know? That’s that song. That’s always special.”
And of course, the minute he said ‘Charlene’, the room got wild because that is one of almost everyone’s favourite Sunday Special songs.
Anthony Hamilton will be performing at Sun Bet Arena in Pretoria this coming weekend.
