The tragic news of Xolani Khumalo, the popular television host of ‘Sizokuthola’ voluntarily handing himself over to the police following a request from the South African Police Service (SAPS) in connection with a recent drug bust incident, have been circulating social media.
The allegations are that Khumalo will be formally charged for the murder of a suspected drug dealer who tragically lost his life during the recording of one of the episodes. It was revealed by the Xolani Khumalo Foundation that their founder handed himself over to police at the Katlehong North police station on Tuesday.
Reports from City Press revealed that Robert “Kicks” Varrie was declared dead after being interrogated during the filming of Sizokuthola and then dropped off at the Thelle Mogoerane regional hospital in Vosloorus last week.
The incident is what led to the opening of a murder case against Khumalo that is now under investigation. The foundation did state that Khumalo together with his team acted in line with the law during the operation.
The foundation also maintained that they operated with the strictest standard of professionalism in their mission to secure accountability from those selling drugs and causing harm to communities. Responding to the ongoing investigation and the charges against Khumalo, the Xolani Khumalo Foundation, along with other organizations including the South African National Taxi Council (Santaco), presented a memorandum of demands to Lt-Col Duncan Scott.
One of their main demands is for the government to amend the Criminal Procedure Act to allow any private person to arrest a suspect without a warrant.
The foundation is currently all about helping in the fight against drug dealing and drug-related crimes and it has hopes to create a safer and drug-free environment for communities.
