Mamelodi Sundowns ladies crowned African champions

Mamelodi Sundowns are back on top of the African women’s soccer scene after defeating Morocco’s SC Casablanca 3-0 to reclaim the CAF Women’s Champions League title.

A brace by top scorer Tholakele Refilwe and a strike from Boitumelo Rabale earned the South Africans the decisive victory on Sunday in Cote d’Ivoire.

The impressive undefeated run sees Sundowns regain the crown they relinquished last season and set a record by not conceding a single goal en route to glory.

In front of a packed stadium, Refilwe’s two goals and Rabale’s finish secured the historic 3-0 result over Casablanca. This avenged Sundowns’ narrow 1-0 group stage loss.

With a clear mission to reclaim the title, Sundowns seized control early and never looked back after Refilwe’s 21st minute penalty. Rabale quickly made it 2-0 before halftime.

Despite a stronger second half showing, Casablanca could not penetrate Sundowns’ staunch defense. Refilwe’s 78th minute goal sealed the outcome and a $400,000 prize for the South African champions.
