Dr Malinga, the award-winning singer, caused a stir on social media when he emotionally opened up about his financial struggles during a Podcast and Chill interview last year. Since then, the artist shares that he’s successfully staged a comeback, attributing his recovery to determination and the generous support of individuals who extended a helping hand.
Detailing the financial missteps that were made, he explained, ‘My accountant made errors, and I received inadequate financial advice. Funds were directed to Lingas Resort, but when I made purchases, including property, they were in my personal name.’
The singer and dancer revealed that he has successfully settled his R2.1 million debt with the South African Revenue Service (Sars).
‘I no longer owe Sars that R2.1 million. The debt is paid off.’ In addition to receiving donations totaling R150,000 from fans and celebrities like Black Coffee, King Monada, Oskido, and others, he also sold some of his properties to cover the debt. Despite mixed reactions to his story, he emphasized that the important thing was that he received the help he needed.
Looking ahead, Dr Malinga announced a new show slated for next year, titled ‘Khala Sigsize,’ focused on assisting people in need. Reflecting on his journey, he remarked, ‘I cried, and I received help. Regardless of how people reacted, in the end, I got the help I needed.’
