Jada Pinkett Smith says the ‘holy slap’ saved her marriage

Jada Pinkett Smith spills the tea on the so-called ‘holy slap’ that’s apparently done wonders for her marriage with Will Smith. In a juicy interview, the 52-year-old spills all the deets on how the Oscars slap heard ’round the world became a turning point.

“I nearly didn’t even attend the Oscars that year, but I’m glad I did,” Jada said. “I call it the ‘holy slap’ now because so many positive things came after it.”

According to Jada, the whole Academy Awards fiasco, where Will decided to give Chris Rock a reality check with a slap after a joke about Jada’s appearance, did wonders for their marriage.

“That moment of the s— hitting the fan is when you see where you really are,” says Jada, who spilled the beans earlier that she and Will had been doing the separate-lives dance for seven years. “After all those years trying to figure out if I would leave Will’s side, it took that slap for me to see I will never leave him.”

And if you’re wondering about the ‘what if’ scenario, Jada’s got you covered: “Who knows where our relationship would be if that hadn’t happened?”

Jada previously thought the whole Oscars debacle was just a skit. “I was like, ‘There’s no way that Will hit him,'” she said. “It wasn’t until Will started to walk back to his chair that I even realized it wasn’t a skit.”

And while Jada is spilling the tea, Will himself is talking about his ‘adversities of the last couple years’ at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Saudi Arabia.

“Fame is a unique monster,” says the Emancipation star. “I’ve had to be really careful.”

But he’s not seeking applause from the masses, explaining, “You can’t get excited when everybody is saying good things about you, because the more you take when people are saying good things about you, the more hurt you’re gonna be when people are saying bad things about you.”

Will dives deep into his own journey, emphasizing the importance of being “clear about who I am and what I am attempting to do in the world.” And you guessed it, he’s not waiting around for others to applaud him. “I am in the process of perfecting my virtue,” he declares. “That’s what this next phase of my life is going to be — perfecting and shining my light as brightly as I can, on as many people as I can.”

Well, it looks like the ‘holy slap’ and the aftermath have stirred up quite the Hollywood drama, leaving us all on the edge of our seats for the next episode in the Smith saga.
