Pierce Brosnan, renowned for his role as James Bond, has found himself in a bit of trouble with officials from Yellowstone Park due to his recent misadventure in a geothermal section of this iconic national park.
The esteemed actor from Ireland was exploring the vast expanse of the park on November 1 when he received a citation for venturing “on foot within a thermal area,” as per details shared by the Los Angeles Times, which claimed to have viewed the official citation.
Yellowstone, spanning a massive 3,500 square miles (approximately 9,000 square kilometers), cautions visitors to remain on designated boardwalks and paths to mitigate the risk of inadvertently stepping through a fragile surface layer, potentially exposing themselves to the boiling waters beneath.
However, it appears that the former star of the “Remington Steele” series inadvertently strayed from the designated paths, catching the attention of a vigilant park ranger.
Park regulations explicitly state, “Visitors must restrict foot travel in all thermal zones and within Yellowstone Canyon, spanning from the Upper Falls to Inspiration Point, exclusively to the marked boardwalks or trails maintained for this purpose.”
Representatives for Brosnan have yet to comment on this incident.
In a grim reminder of the park’s hazards, last year authorities discovered a human foot within a hot spring, where temperatures soar to approximately 140 degrees Fahrenheit (60 degrees Celsius). Authorities believed the remains belonged to an individual who had tragically slipped into the Abyss Pool a few months prior.
This isn’t the first instance of such unfortunate incidents. In 2016, a tragic incident resulted in the death of a young man who deviated from a boardwalk and accidentally fell into a hot spring located at the Norris Geyser Basin.
Yellowstone, the United States’ inaugural national park, spans regions of Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana. This iconic park boasts numerous geothermal attractions, including hot springs, mudpots, steam vents, and houses nearly half of the world’s active geysers, with Old Faithful being a prime example.
Interestingly, Yellowstone served as the muse for Jellystone Park, the animated residence of the much-loved character Yogi Bear. This endearing but ever-hungry bear was perpetually scheming to pilfer picnic baskets while evading the diligent park ranger.
