YFM’s graveyard shift DJ, Mncedisi Sindane, took the term “graveyard” quite literally and vanished into thin air. Winner of Y’s #BeTheNext competition in 2021, Sindane has found himself out of a job after a few weeks of ghosting his shifts.
Insiders revealed that Sindane had found a sneaky way to keep the music playing while he was out partying or lounging at home – by setting the programming on auto play, but conveniently forgetting to set up any links. “He had the system rigged to play tunes even when he wasn’t around,” said one source.
But Sindane’s disappearing act didn’t go unnoticed by management, who caught wind of his absence when they discovered he’d been invoicing for work he hadn’t been doing. “The whistleblowers dropped the bomb, and management wasted no time in giving him the boot,” the source added.
The station manager remained tight-lipped when asked for comment, simply stating, “No comment.”
According to another insider, Sindane had been juggling multiple side hustles, his studies, and the graveyard shift, leading to burnout. “He’s passionate about his job, so there’s got to be more to this story than meets the eye,” the source speculated.
Despite all this drama, Sindane had shown promise as a rising radio star during his two and a half years at YFM. After winning the #BeTheNext competition in September 2021, he had shared his gratitude, saying, “YFM has always been about giving new talent a chance to shine, and I’m thrilled to be on the receiving end this time. It’s always a vibe making radio on ‘#TheFirstDose’!”
