Gauteng Film Commission Celebrates Cinematic Brilliance at the Inaugural Discover Summit

The Gauteng Film Commission (GFC) proudly celebrated a milestone with the inaugural Discover Summit, a ground-breaking event designed to nurture and elevate both emerging and seasoned filmmakers. Held on May 9th and 10th at the prestigious Sandton Convention Centre, the summit showcased Gauteng’s cinematic landscape in all its vibrant glory.

With a vision to create an inclusive and dynamic platform for filmmakers of all calibers, the GFC brought the Discover Summit to life. Over two transformative days, attendees immersed themselves in a rich array of masterclasses led by industry luminaries. Topics ranged from droning and film scoring to producing, animation, and more, providing invaluable knowledge and igniting inspiration and collaboration among participants.

A dynamic parade through the streets of Sandton CBD embodied the celebratory spirit and collective passion driving Gauteng’s film community forward. With 1,000 delegates in attendance, the Discover Summit became a beacon of opportunity, uniting filmmakers from all walks of life in their pursuit of cinematic excellence.

The summit’s vibrant exhibitions, curated by film practitioners, highlighted the vast opportunities within the industry. Featuring cutting-edge technologies and innovative storytelling techniques, these exhibits underscored the rich tapestry of talent and creativity inherent in Gauteng’s film community.

The highlight of the Discover Summit was the celebratory evening of the Discover Summit Recognition Merits. The GFC honoured outstanding filmmakers for their significant contributions to the industry, recognizing excellence across various categories. Esteemed recipients included:
