Ariana Grande has set the record straight on her cosmetic journey, clarifying that she has been Botox-free for four years, despite a light-hearted comment she made during an awards ceremony.
The singer recently sparked speculation at the 36th annual Palm Springs International Film Awards, where she accepted a Rising Star award. While on stage, Grande joked about using Botox and Juvederm, two popular injectables for reducing fine lines and wrinkles.
“You don’t know how much this means to me,” she began. “I’ve been performing since I was a child, so I never thought at the age of 31 I would be hearing the words ‘rising star’ again. So, I wanted to start by thanking my two friends: Botox and Juvederm.”
Grande later addressed the speculation in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, explaining that her remarks were purely in jest. “Oh my gosh,” she said, laughing. “My joke. My bit. I’m still clean. I’m clean. But when I start going again, I will let you know. I mean it.”
As the founder of R.E.M. Beauty, Grande emphasized the importance of being candid about her experiences. “I really want to be transparent as a beauty founder,” she explained. “I think it’s important to have transparency. I love [Botox], but I am still four years clean.”
Grande’s comments align with her ongoing conversation about beauty standards, a topic she discussed last month in an emotional interview with French YouTuber Sally and actress Cynthia Erivo. Reflecting on societal pressures, Grande shared, “I have heard every version of it, of what’s wrong with me. And then you fix it, and then it’s wrong for different reasons.”
Holding back tears, she elaborated on the harm caused by public scrutiny. “I think in today’s society, there’s a comfortability that we shouldn’t have at all, commenting on others’ looks, appearance, what they think is going on behind the scenes, or health, or how they present themselves,” she said. “From what you’re wearing to your body to your face to your everything, there’s a comfortability that people have commenting on that that I think is really dangerous, and I think it’s dangerous for all parties involved.”
