Kaizer Chiefs captain, Given Msimango, has been called back to the Bafana Bafana squad this week.
The 27-year-old was initially included in Hugo Broos’ preliminary squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. However, he didn’t make the final 23-man roster. An injury to Grant Kekana has now opened the door for Msimango’s return.
The 23-man squad predominantly features players from Mamelodi Sundowns, with Msimango being the sole representative from Kaizer Chiefs. Bafana Bafana is set to play an away match against Nigeria followed by a home game against Zimbabwe.
“Bafana Bafana camp in full swing on day 1, with all players present. There is one change to the initial squad announced by Coach Hugo Broos. Due to injury, Grant Kekana has been released and Given Msimango has reported for duty,” the national football team announced on X (Twitter).
Kekana sustained his injury during Sundowns’ Nedbank Cup final against Orlando Pirates on Saturday, where the Buccaneers emerged victorious with a 2-1 win at the Mbombela Stadium. With Kekana side-lined, Msimango is likely to step into the Bafana Bafana defence for the upcoming match against Nigeria.
Additionally, Mothobi Mvala and Khuliso Mudau are doubtful for the match against the Super Eagles.
