Nigerian Actress Temi Otedola Becomes L’Oréal Paris’s First African Digital Brand Ambassador

Temi Otedola, a prominent Nigerian actress, reflects on her journey from a 16-year-old fashion blogger to becoming the new African Digital Brand Ambassador for L’Oréal Paris. This groundbreaking partnership not only highlights Otedola’s rise in the digital space but also marks her as the first Nigerian to represent the esteemed brand.

Joining a distinguished group of ambassadors including Thuso Mbedu, Kendall Jenner, and Viola Davis, Otedola’s collaboration with L’Oréal Paris is a significant achievement in celebrating diverse beauty across Africa.

According to IOL, this partnership underscores the transformative power of the internet as a sustainable platform for career opportunities. Otedola, who has always been engaged with digital media, expressed her excitement about this new role:

“It feels amazing, especially being someone who comes from a digital background and growing up with the internet and consuming all my media online. Even seeing Gen Z’s getting their news from TikTok, it’s amazing to see the emphasis that people are putting on the digital space.”

She highlighted the internet’s role as a community space where people share content and ideas, emphasizing the global reach and impact of digital platforms.

“What I love about the online space is that you can create your brand; you can decide that you want to be a chef and you can use Instagram or TikTok to create a persona that can then lead you to a career that before you would have to go through traditional means to get, such as going to cooking school.”

Otedola has navigated various digital avenues, from blogging and content creation to podcasting. Her podcast, ‘How Far?’, co-hosted with her fiancé, musician and entrepreneur Mr Eazi, started during the Covid pandemic and is now in its third season.

The 28-year-old actress emphasizes authenticity and passion in her work: “People know when you are not being authentic with what you are making and they can see the reason you are doing something is because you are passionate about it.”

As the new face of L’Oréal Paris Makeup, Otedola will spearhead the upcoming campaigns for the Infallible Makeup Range. Her distinct style and commitment to celebrating diverse African beauty will be central to these initiatives.

Otedola appreciates the experimental nature of African women with beauty, drawing inspiration from her mother and other women who were not afraid to try new things. She sees beauty as a form of expression and a means of bonding.

“It’s a way to celebrate ourselves and whatever makes you feel good. Some days it’s a full face of makeup, some no makeup. Makeup is a way to give you extra confidence, sometimes.”

Otedola joins forces with Thuso Mbedu, who continues to represent Sub-Saharan Africa for L’Oréal Paris, reinforcing the brand’s dedication to showcasing the diverse and dynamic beauty of African women.
