Kylie Jenner’s latest interview with British Vogue gives a rare glimpse into the more personal and vulnerable side of the reality star. At 26, the Kylie Cosmetics mogul opens up about the emotional challenges she faced during her postpartum period, offering an intimate look at the realities of motherhood.
As a mother to two young kids, Stormi, 6, and Aire, 2, with her ex Travis Scott, Jenner candidly spoke about how postpartum depression impacted her after both births. Reflecting on her journey, she revealed, “I’m going to be 27, and I’m finally feeling like myself again.” The transition to motherhood was not an easy one for Jenner, who admits that she spent much of her pregnancy in sweatpants, overwhelmed by even the smallest tasks. “Then postpartum lasted a year. Mentally, it’s really hard. Hormonally, it’s really hard,” she shared.
The second time around, postpartum depression hit Jenner even harder. She described experiencing “major baby blues” after the birth of her son, Aire, which brought an intense wave of emotions that she wasn’t expecting. One of the most distressing challenges she faced was naming her son, a task that became a significant source of anxiety. “It hit me differently both times. Probably with my son it was major baby blues, so I was just so emotional over things that I probably wouldn’t be that emotional about typically,” she admitted.
The struggle to choose a name for her son became an emotional ordeal. Jenner recounted, “I was on the phone with my mum all day hysterically crying, saying, ‘I can’t figure out his name.’” The pressure and guilt she felt were immense, as she couldn’t believe how perfect her son was and yet felt like a failure for not being able to name him. “He deserved so much more than that. It just really triggered me,” she confessed.
Through this experience, Jenner has gained a piece of valuable advice for new parents: choose the baby’s name before they arrive. “My advice to all my friends having children is pick the name before, because when the hormones hit, you can’t make decisions. You can’t,” she said, reflecting on the rollercoaster she endured.
The story behind her son’s name is one filled with humour and twists. Originally, Jenner and Scott named their son Wolf Jacques, but soon realized the name didn’t suit him. At one point, his name was Knight, a name that Stormi, her daughter, still fondly remembers. “Stormi is still a fan of the old name. She says, ‘Do you remember when Aire’s name was Knight?’ And I’m like, ‘No.’ She’s like, ‘That was so funny, Mum. I like Knight better.’ And I’m like, ‘You know what, we are not doing this again.’”
In January 2023, after much speculation, Jenner finally announced her son’s new name, Aire, a moniker that means “Lion of God.” The journey to this decision was anything but straightforward, and it offers an in depth look into the pressures and emotional struggles that many new parents face.
