The Iconic Jack Mabaso Returns to “Generations: The Legacy”

The legendary Vusi Kunene is set to reprise his role as the infamous supervillain Jack Mabaso on “Generations: The Legacy.” The ever-evolving landscape of South African TV continues to captivate audiences, even if it means bringing back beloved characters from the past.

Just as Gabriel Temudzani has re-joined “Muvhango” as Azwindini Mukwevho, Kunene is making a triumphant return. This month, Kunene bid farewell to his role on e.tv’s hit show “House of Zwide,” opting for a brief respite from the frenetic pace of television. But come August, fans will see him light up their screens once more on SABC 1.

“Vusi Kunene is one of the truly great actors! He will continue to heighten the standard of entertainment television in South Africa and beyond, reminding us of the iconic status of ‘Generations’,” said an enthusiastic Mfundi Vundla, the show’s executive producer.

Kunene’s ties to “Generations” run deep, having been part of the original series and its continuation, “Generations: The Legacy.” After delivering a masterful performance for five riveting years, he departed the show in 2021, leaving fans with a thrilling exit that still lingers in their minds.

The news of his return has sparked mixed reactions among fans. Some are ecstatic to see how Jack Mabaso will shake up the storyline, while others are apprehensive. “You know you love to hate Jack. And he loves it!” Kunene remarked, embodying his character’s enduring appeal.

Casting Director Russel Savadier said: “One of the great lingering questions on ‘Generations: The Legacy’ is finally getting answered – ‘Is he dead, or isn’t he?’ I’m as delighted as anyone that he’s alive and well and returning in dramatic fashion to our show. Vusi Kunene’s re-entry into our world is going to keep viewers glued to their seats!”

Mark your calendars for August 14, as Kunene makes his highly anticipated debut.
