SuperSport and SABC Team Up to Bring the Thrills of PSL Football to SA

In a victory for football fans across South Africa, SuperSport and the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) have officially teamed up to share Premier Soccer League (PSL) broadcast rights, just in time for the exciting new Betway Premiership season.

This latest deal builds on the strong partnership between the two broadcasters, who previously struck sub-licensing agreements for the MTN8 tournament and the Currie Cup semi-final showdown last weekend. Now, the PSL is at the heart of this collaboration, ensuring even more viewers will get to enjoy the drama and action of South Africa’s top-flight football.

The much-anticipated Betway Premiership kicked off on Saturday, 14 September 2024, with fans nationwide tuning in to support their favorite teams as they vie for the most coveted trophy in South African football.

SuperSport’s CEO Rendani Ramovha shared his excitement: “This latest sub-licence agreement with the SABC marks another step in strengthening our relationship with the public broadcaster. It’s all about bringing the beautiful game to millions of football lovers across the country and continent. The PSL remains the top football product for South Africans, and we can’t wait to deliver yet another thrilling season of football action on SuperSport.”

SABC Group CEO Nomsa Chabeli echoed Ramovha’s enthusiasm, saying, “We’re delighted to have secured this rights package, which is a testament to our commitment to delivering top-tier sports content to our diverse audiences. The deal covers 51 matches, including 23 Betway Premiership games, 10 Carling Black Label Cup matches, 12 Nedbank Cup fixtures, and 6 National First Division showdowns. Football fans can catch live league matches every Saturday on SABC 1 throughout the season, keeping the nation glued to their screens for the best in local football.”

Chabeli also revealed an exciting upgrade to SABC’s coverage: “We’re enhancing our broadcast with even more expert analysis. Joining our star-studded commentary team are Itumeleng Khune, Jabu Mahlangu, and Coach Thabo Senong, who will be bringing their wealth of experience to the table. They’ll join our resident analysts Doctor Khumalo, Simphiwe Dludlu, and Hlompho Kekana, ensuring fans get insightful commentary and in-depth analysis all season long.”

With this powerful collaboration, both SuperSport and the SABC are making sure that football lovers across South Africa won’t miss a single kick, pass, or goal. Let the Betway Premiership season begin!
