South African Women’s Cricket team, the Proteas, showed the Scottish XI team how to dominate with bat and ball as they clinched an 80-run victory in their second T20 Women’s World Cup match and took another positive step towards the semi-finals in Dubai earlier today.
The Proteas set a target of 167 runs to win, with the opening batting pairing of Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits taking good advantage of the power-play period, and completing a 64-run partnership before Wolvaardt was removed by Fraser in the eighth over.
Scotland’s batting line-up collapsed in spectacular style, and were bowled out for a low 86 runs. The collapse saw none of their players achieve even 20 runs with only Ailsa Lister, out for12 runs and Katherin Fraser with a total of14 while the rest had single figure scores.
South Africa’s bowling attack was led by the classy spinner Nonkululeko Mlaba, who took 3 wickets for 12 runs, while Nadine de Klerk took 2 for15, and Chloe Tryon took 2 for 22.
The Proteas will face Bangladesh in their last group B match in Dubai on Saturday, with lots of draw possibilities still to be decided in terms of which teams will progress to the playoff and what the semi-final draw will look like.
With their second win of the tournament secure, the Proteas climbed to top spot in their group and should be a keen contender for a Semi-final berth. Only the top two teams in each group will move forward to the semi-finals. Bangladesh and the Proteas have both lost to England and both beaten Scotland so far in the T20 and it should be a competitive match that will hopefully see a Protea victory
