The country is currently going through the most and shocked because in a sad turn of events, the South African rugby legend Siya Kolisi and his wife have officially announced that they are getting a divorce.
The most surprising thing is that the couple just came back to South Africa from France after Siya’s contract with Racing 92 came to a close, and they announced the news through a joint statement this Tuesday afternoon.
“This decision comes from a place of love, respect, and understanding that this is the best path forward for both of us. While our relationship as a couple is changing, we remain great friends and committed partners in raising our children with the same love and care they’ve always known,” the statement read. The couple also emphasized their ongoing collaboration on the Kolisi Foundation, a project close to both their hearts.

Siya and Rachel first crossed paths in 2012 at a dinner party in Stellenbosch, a meeting that blossomed into a love story admired by fans across the globe. By 2015, they had welcomed their first child, Nicholas Siyamthanda, followed by their daughter Keziah in 2017. In a display of their deep commitment to family, the Kolisis also adopted Siya’s younger half-siblings, Liyema and Liphelo, in 2014.
Rachel put her career on hold, leaving behind her work as an event manager and marketing executive to focus on raising their growing family. Later in the years, she became a great part of the Kolisi Foundation, a philanthropic initiative launched by the couple to uplift underprivileged communities in South Africa.
Their love story reached a climax in August 2016 when they finally tied the knot in a stunning Franschhoek ceremony, captured by cameras for the popular show Top Billing. Despite the picture-perfect wedding, the couple has endured their share of challenges over the years.
From online harassment and racial abuse to unwelcome interference from outsiders, the Kolisis faced turbulent moments. Rachel, known for her fierce defence of her marriage, even called out women publicly for sending inappropriate messages to Siya on social media.
Last year, the couple celebrated their seventh wedding anniversary, reflecting on their journey together. In a candid interview with fellow South African celebrity Siv Ngesi, Siya shared how Rachel had supported him through difficult times. “I wanted a family, I longed for a family. She got pregnant, and before Nick was born, we found my brother and sister. She took in two other kids who couldn’t speak a word of English, and I was not in a good place. She stayed with me,” Siya recounted.

Siya Kolisi and Rachel Kolisi were one of South Africa’s power couples and right now, most citizens are still shocked and wondering what could have led to this decision, but also everyone is glad that there is no bad blood between the two.
