Is love brewing between Mariah Carey and Anderson .Paak?

Could the festive season bring Mariah Carey and Anderson .Paak together under the mistletoe? Fans definitely have their curiosities piqued after a recent TMZ report detailed a sighting of the two music icons in Aspen, Colorado. According to the outlet, Carey and .Paak were spotted holding hands as they made their way to the upscale restaurant Catch Steak, with .Paak even seen wrapping an arm around the “Queen of Christmas’” waist.

But before you start dreaming of a duet-filled holiday romance, hold your sleigh bells. A source close to the situation told TMZ that the Grammy winners are not dating and even left the restaurant separately. As we know, both stars have their own histories in love and family life. Carey shares 13-year-old twins, Monroe and Moroccan, with ex-husband Nick Cannon, whom she divorced in 2016. Meanwhile, .Paak filed for divorce from his wife, Jae Lin Chang, earlier this year after more than a decade of marriage. The former couple share two sons, Soul Rasheed, 13, and Shine Tariq, 6.

This isn’t the first time Carey and .Paak’s paths have crossed. Back in June, the pair were seen working together during recording sessions at New York’s iconic Electric Lady Studios. Carey even brought along her twins, making the collaboration a family affair. Speculation about a musical partnership heated up when Carey hinted at an exciting new project during an interview with Vogue celebrating the 25th anniversary of her legendary album Rainbow. While she played coy about naming names, her enthusiasm was unmistakable.

“I’ve actually been working this whole week in the studio with someone who shall remain nameless, but I’m so excited about that,” Carey shared. “The next album is happening and coming soon, so be patient.”

Fans will have to wait and see if this unnamed collaborator is indeed Anderson .Paak, but there’s no denying the potential magic of their combined talents. Carey, who has been married twice before—her first husband being record executive Tommy Mottola—was most recently linked to backup dancer Bryan Tanaka. The pair’s on-and-off relationship ended in late 2023.

As for her current approach to relationships, Carey revealed in an October Billboard interview that she’s taking a more laid-back stance. The pop diva described herself as a “more ‘friend’ type of person” these days and encouraged potential suitors to “get it on a friendly level.”
