Muni Long recently opened up about an incident in which J. Cole walked out of a studio session after hearing her speak negatively about others.
In an interview with The Neighborhood Talk, Muni reflected on the situation, explaining that she quickly realised she and the rapper were on different wavelengths.
“I realised we weren’t on the same frequency,” Muni said about J. Cole’s departure.
“He’s not on that. Complaining and saying, ‘Man, why are these people always trying to play us? Who do they think they are?’ That kind of conversation doesn’t circulate in higher-level rooms.”
She emphasised that J. Cole didn’t judge her or say anything negative but simply listened for a moment before leaving.
“He didn’t judge me. He didn’t say anything bad. He sat there, listened for about a minute, and then he got up and left.”
Muni continued, explaining that people with positive, “high vibrational” energy often find it difficult to lift others who are stuck in negativity.
“What happens is, when you’re high vibrational like that, most likely, those people are going to bring you down. You’re not going to be able to bring them up.”
J. Cole’s decision to leave the session is consistent with his well-known stance against engaging with negativity.
Last October, J. Cole broke his silence regarding the decision to step away from a rumored beef with Kendrick Lamar and Drake, which he addressed on his track Port Antonio.
In the song, Cole raps: “I pulled the plug because I’ve seen where that was ‘bout to go. They wanted blood, they wanted clicks to make they pockets grow.”
“They see this fire in my pen and think I’m dodgin’ smoke. I wouldn’t have lost a battle, dawg, I would’ve lost a bro. I would’ve gained a foe, and all for what? Just to attain some mo’.
According to BBC, J. Cole was suggesting that he “pulled the plug” because he saw where the beef was heading.
