Neymar’s Time at Al-Hilal Comes to an End with Mutual Consent

Striker Neymar has officially parted ways with Saudi Pro League champions Al-Hilal, the club announced on Monday.

The move comes after a difficult and injury-riddled spell for the Brazilian forward, who has struggled to regain peak form since his high-profile transfer from Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) last August.

The 32-year-old, who is Brazil’s all-time top scorer with 79 international goals, joined Al-Hilal for a reported fee of around 90 million euros ($98 million).

However, his time in Riyadh was hampered by a knee injury sustained during Brazil’s World Cup qualifier against Uruguay in October 2023.

This setback further disrupted his already limited appearances, with Neymar featuring in just seven matches for the Saudi club.

“Al-Hilal Club Company and Neymar Jr. have agreed to terminate their contractual relationship by mutual consent,” the club posted on X (formerly Twitter), marking the official end of their partnership.

Despite the short-lived tenure, Neymar’s move to Al-Hilal was seen as a major coup for the Saudi Pro League, bringing one of football’s biggest stars to the region.

However, the move never fully lived up to expectations, with the Brazilian struggling to find consistent form after the injury.

Reports have suggested that Neymar is now poised to return to his childhood club, Santos, the club where his professional career first began before his high-profile moves to Barcelona in 2013 and later PSG in 2017 for a world-record fee of 222 million euros.
