Nicki Minaj Facing Lawsuit from Former Tour Manager

In a turn of events straight out of a Hollywood drama, rap royalty Nicki Minaj has found herself at the centre of a legal storm. The 42-year-old superstar, celebrated for her chart-topping hits and larger-than-life persona, is facing allegations of physical assault and emotional distress brought by her former tour manager, Brandon Garrett. The claims have sparked a frenzy of speculation, with the lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court making headlines worldwide.

The alleged incident occurred during Minaj’s ‘Pink Friday 2’ tour at Detroit’s Little Caesars Arena on April 21, 2025. According to court documents obtained by TMZ and Variety, Brandon Garrett claims he was subjected to a verbal tirade and a physical assault in the presence of several staff members.

It all began when Garrett received a text from Minaj’s head of security, Larry Dathan, instructing him to meet the star in her dressing room. Upon arrival, Garrett was greeted by an agitated Minaj, who, according to the lawsuit, criticized the disorganization among her team and interrogated a staffer named Luke Montgomery about his role on the tour.

Montgomery’s explanation, which included responsibilities like setting up venues, private jets, and tour buses, alongside handling personal tasks such as procuring prescriptions, reportedly set the stage for a heated exchange. Garrett explained that he had delegated the prescription pickup to Montgomery due to other pressing tour responsibilities, but Minaj allegedly exploded in anger.

Garrett’s lawsuit describes an intense confrontation where Minaj reportedly screamed: “Are you f****** crazy having him pick up my prescription? You have lost your f****** mind, and if my husband were here, he would knock out your f****** teeth. You’re a dead man walking. You just f****** up your whole life, and you will never be anyone, I’ll make sure of it.”

The lawsuit alleges Minaj then demanded Montgomery reveal details about the prescriptions he had picked up before turning her ire back to Garrett. Matters escalated further when Minaj allegedly struck Garrett on the right side of his face, causing his hat to fly off and his head to jerk backward.

The incident reportedly left Garrett not only shaken but also with a “throbbing” wrist, which he claims was injured during the altercation. Seeking refuge, he locked himself in a bathroom for several hours. Shortly after, he received a text informing him that his presence was no longer required for the next tour stop.

Garrett’s attorneys are now seeking punitive and general damages for what they describe as “intentional infliction of emotional distress” and physical harm. The former manager has also filed a police report with the Detroit Police Department.

Nicki Minaj’s legal team has wasted no time dismissing the allegations. Attorney Judd Burstein called the lawsuit “completely false and frivolous,” asserting confidence in the star’s eventual exoneration.

“At this time, no complaint has been served upon Minaj, and therefore, we are unaware of the specific allegations,” Burstein told TMZ. “However, if the lawsuit is as reported by TMZ, it is completely false and frivolous. We are confident that the matter brought by this ex-assistant will be resolved swiftly in Mrs. Petty’s favour.”
